Experience Mars through multimodal haptics: The Touch at the Museum of Science in Milan

WEART partnered with Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci to develop The Touch, a multiplayer immersive experience that blends virtual reality with advanced haptics. Through the integration of TouchDIVER Pro, visitors are placed inside a collaborative mission on Mars where interaction is not only visual but physical, bringing a new dimension to how museum audiences engage with science.

Case Study

01

Goals

The project was designed to redefine how visitors experience scientific content by turning exploration into an active, collaborative process. By combining gameplay mechanics with scientifically grounded scenarios, the goal is to increase engagement, stimulate problem-solving, and create a memorable learning experience that goes beyond traditional exhibition formats.

02

TouchDIVER adoption

The choice of TouchDIVER Pro was driven by its capability to reproduce realistic touch sensations through a combination of force feedback, textures, and temperature variations. This allows users to interact with virtual elements in a way that closely mirrors real-world manipulation, making it particularly effective for an experience centered on exploration and discovery.

Key impact of TouchDIVER Pro

Introducing haptic feedback into the experience fundamentally changes how users perceive and interact with the virtual environment. Instead of simply observing, players actively feel surfaces, tools and objects, which strengthens immersion and reinforces learning.

As a result:

  • Users become more engaged through direct interaction
  • Scientific concepts are easier to grasp through experiential learning
  • Team-based gameplay is enhanced by more natural and intuitive interactions

The Touch demonstrates how combining haptics with VR can transform cultural spaces into interactive environments, where education and entertainment coexist in a more compelling and impactful way.
